50 Flagship Structures: Discover Napa County’s Treasured Places
Napa County Landmarks is thrilled to introduce the “50 Flagship Structures” campaign, a community-driven initiative designed to celebrate the architectural identity of Napa County. We’re compiling a list of 500 notable buildings and structures, from historic homes to contemporary landmarks, expressing our region’s rich cultural heritage. Join us in this exciting endeavor as we unveil 50 of the most iconic places, showcasing the diversity of stories and styles that define Napa County.
The 50 Flagship Structures will be chosen across seven categories: wineries, commercial buildings, educational buildings, governmental/civic buildings, resort-recreational sites, residential, and sacred spaces.
Final selections will be revealed in late 2025.
The results of the program include:
- Inventory and database of properties organized by type;
- Database of contributing architects, tradespeople, and patrons with short biographical summaries;
- 50 Flagship Structures listing and summary of 50 properties that represent the history and diverse character of the Napa County community.
Criteria for Selection:
The focus of the study will be to identify buildings and structures that are significant for their physical design or construction, including such elements as architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, and artwork. These properties can also embody the distinctive characteristics of a type, period, or method of construction; represent the work of a master, possess high artistic values, or represent a significant and distinguishable entity whose components may lack individual distinction.*
Many of the identified buildings and sites may also be associated with events that have made a significant contribution to the broad patterns of our history and/or are associated with the lives of significant persons in our past.
* This program is inspired by, but not associated with, the National Park Service or the National Register. The selection process is in alignment with Criterion C guidelines for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
