Heidi Barrett grew up in Napa Valley in a winemaking family and went on to become one of California’s most celebrated vintners, blending a deep understanding of science with an artist’s sensibility. After studying Fermentation Science at University of California, Davis and gaining experience at wineries across California, Australia, and Germany, she built a remarkable reputation crafting some of Napa Valley’s most acclaimed wines.
In 2002, Barrett partnered with longtime friend John Schwartz to create Amuse Bouche, a limited-production, Pomerol-inspired Merlot rooted in Napa Valley. The vision was to create a wine of exceptional quality while broadening access beyond the exclusivity that had come to define the cult wine market. Combining Barrett’s elegant, balanced winemaking philosophy with carefully sourced fruit and limited-edition artwork, Amuse Bouche became known for bringing together artistry, craftsmanship, and approachability.
Today, Amuse Bouche stands as a distinctive Napa Valley label and reflects Heidi Barrett’s enduring influence on the region’s wine culture—demonstrating how innovation, expertise, and a strong sense of place can shape a lasting legacy.
