My Napa Coloring Book

Learn About Napa's History

Engage with the landmark people and places of our community!

We hope you enjoy this short picture-tour of Napa, past and present. But what will the future hold? As Napa grows, more homes and businesses will be built, but we must also preserve our wild and open spaces, agricultural areas and traces of our heritage that have made our world-famous valley such a special place to live and visit. The choices we make today will determine what Napa will become 10, 50, or even 100 years from now.

About My Napa Coloring Book: Since 2015, we have given away more than 14,500 free copies of our 36-page, bi-lingual coloring book. In 2024, we distributed the book to 1,445 third graders (across 26 local schools and 65 classrooms) during “Preservation Month.” The book, a recipient of the prestigious 2015 Governor’s Historic Preservation Award from the California Office of Historic Preservation and California State Parks, has been recognized for “demonstrating significant achievement in preserving the heritage of California.”

About the Author & Illustrator

Marie Dolcini is a writer with a B.A. in History from Mount Holyoke College. She moved to Napa in 2001 when she and her husband purchased a derelict Craftsman bungalow downtown and restored it. She raised their two children to appreciate the history, workmanship and charm of older homes.

Mary Ann Henderson specializes in portrait, landscape, and still-life painting in oil, pastel, and water color. She received her BFA from Notre Dame College in Cleveland, OH, and resides in the Bay Area. She has exhibited in local, regional, and national shows, has received many major awards, and remains a continuing source of inspiration to the author–her daughter and collaborator on this coloring book for children.
