On Saturday, April 15, local retired judge and native Napan Ray Guadagni will conduct a walking tour of Napa’s very own Little Italy neighborhood. Little Italy consisted of several blocks from a small portion of Third and Fourth Streets to Silverado Trail. Participants will receive a hand-drawn map of Little Italy and will learn about a number of businesses owned and operated by Napa’s Italian American community in the mid-20th century. Residents of Little Italy formed a close-knit community, culturally similar to many immigrant populations. They were very self-sufficient, raising much of their own food in home gardens and bartering with neighbors. The tour will begin in front of Avow Restaurant on Main Street, which is the site of the former Fagiani’s Cocktail Lounge and Liquor Store, owned by a prominent Italian American family from that era. This location is also the place where one of the most infamous murders in Napa history occurred. The leader of the tour presided over the murder trial in 2011 and wrote the book “The Napa Murder of Anita Fagiani Andrews: A Cold Case That Caught a Serial Killer.”
We hope to see you there!
