Legacies of Long Ago Napans – Mid-Century Modern Mystique

“Legacies of Long Ago Napans – The Mid-Century Modern Mystique” course’s focus is more than May’s official designation as historic preservation month. Actually, the more important prong of this inspiration is the recent demolition of the mid-century modern style Chrysler-Jeep Auto Dealership building at 333 Soscol Avenue, Napa. The razing of this rare local example of the “Googie” architectural style was the primary motivation for the current historic preservation action being taken by NCL.

The May 2021 “Legacies” class meetings will examine the multiple aspects of mid-century modern architectural styles, their design principles, idioms and significance as well as the importance of their preservation. Accompanying this focus will be discussions about historic preservation options.
